My solo was to the song Bird Set Free by Sia. My main theme I chose was about being self confident and independent and not caring what other people think.
In my dance I based my movements on the words and how I interpreted them. I used techniques such as repetition with the motif for the words 'Bird Set Free' to enhance my themes. I kept my emotion quite sombre near the beginning of my solo and then made it more happy at the climax to show that I've let go and don't care what others think.
I think that my performance went really well, however It could have gone better as I slipped in the middle but covered it up with another.
I think my projection and musicality was the strength in my solo but my weaknesses would probably be stamina and strength. To improve these I will do more exercise weekly for the next few months so I can keep up energy within a dance more effectively.
I could also improve my eye line as I looked at the floor a lot so I would slip again, to improve this I need to improve my confidence by practicing the dance enough that I know it off by heart and not to change it the day before. As a result this will make it more interesting for the audience and let me able to project more.

Dance evaluation of the year!
I have danced since the age of 3, and I think my dance theory knowledge has improved and developed more this year than my physical dance skill although, I do feel I have explored more as a dance this year with the range of contexts with the dance such as, where we danced and what the stimuli may have been also I think I have looked more into gestural dance this year then full on movement.
This year I was involved in Rent, Dance show, The Wiz and Rock Challenge.
I think have contributed a lot to creating material within projects this year such as rock challenge, the Wiz and the dance show. I have always enjoy choreographing so having the opportunity to do it this year has really helped me develop as a dancer/choreographer by doing a variety of themes. An example would be me creating material for the death scene in rock challenge and the celebratory dance within in Wiz.
I think my physical skills have been used and developed this year through doing many different performances like our group piece which was based on physical theatre, allowing me to use balance and participation of the body in a whole new way. I think my interpretative skills have really developed this year through the range of works we have been focusing on. Example children's theatre and gang piece.
I think this year my strengths were coordination, choreographing/devising and projecting my ideas. I think my weaknesses were stamina, flexibility and characterisation, to improve this I will develop my stamina over the summer through exercise as well as flexibility and to improve my characterisation I will do research.

Rock Challenge Evaluation
Rock Challenge is a dance/drama competition in which schools/colleges create a 7 min dance performance based on a theme of their choice.
Our theme was the story Dorian Grey, we called the piece Eternally Grey - Believing that the only things having are youth and beauty. The impressionable and naive Dorian is willing to do anything to avoid ageing. He pledges his soul in order to gain immortality whilst his portrait ages recording every sin and immoral experience however his actions lead to heart ache and he begins to realise what is important, but to what end?
Our piece was split up into 6 sections; opening, Devils, Duet, Girls, dead in the water and finale.
We started by working on the Devils and Girls actions as we could split up and get more done, The main focus of the girl section was to show how Dorian was easily swayed to other girls and would cheat on his partner, so we made it very mature and sassy.
For the Dead in the water section Kat asked me to use some of my choreography from my solo in the dance show as it was very emotional and drama based, so I took it and changed it slightly so that the dynamics were more to the song as well more fitting to the story/situation. I had to change it also so that it worked with three people including Jess who was playing Dorians partner. This section was about her being heart broken and wanting to kill herself, so I made it more dramatic for jess so less leg movements so that she could focus on acting, whereas becky and I did more physical version of the motifs. A lot of the motifs consisted of reaches, contractions as well to make it more compelling and emotional to help towards the drama score.
When she actually drowns herself we need a travelling section to go in a circle to act as the waves so Becky and I created a small motif to repeat in the circle which was then repeated in the finale but slightly different. This consisted of slides, spins and jumps as I came up with the idea that as the moves got bigger it represented the waves getting wilder and her closer to death. This I think helped tell the story more as otherwise it was slightly confusing.
I also helped with the choreography for the finale section, for this section we had to be aggressive as we were representing Dorians feelings as we are like his conscience and we are in a way dying so a lot of the moves were very heavy and sharp, as it was the end I made the suggested that we should as more of a build up towards the end so as it was getting more dramatic we added more jumps and the guys to go in and start intimidating/aggravating Dorian, then Liam came up with the final idea to explode and all die at the end from Dorians outburst.
In a rehearsal I strained a ligament so I was out of practicing the week before show so I was very anxious about how it was going to go, I think that it went really well and my strengths would be my characterisation, projection, focus/eyeline however my coordination and balance went off as I ended up snapping my ligament within the actual performance but I didn't stop although it effected a lot of the movements I was doing I had to change them slightly and therefore my timing wasn't perfect to improve this I need to recover properly and go to my physio and then go back to rehearsing when I am fully recovered as well as making a back up plan with the dance in case it happens again so I don't panic on stage .

Brand New Day/Everybody Rejoice - plan, rehearsals and evaluations.
Brand New Day/ Everybody Rejoice is the number I have to create within the Wiz, this number is the celebration song by the workers after the witch has been killed by Dorothy. Because it is a celebration I really wanted it to be very upbeat and party like and fun. I watched a few different versions of it been done before online and then listened to the track before starting to create movement.
For the overall aesthetic to be how I planned , I wanted them to be wearing colourful and bright clothing like a party, also to contrast with the boring coloured worker outfits they had on previously.
I started off by choreographing up to the first chorus, as I wanted to try it out in class and make sure it looked right with what I was going with. It worked out that I liked what I had created so I then choreographed more of the routine. I did this because I didn't want to create material make them learn it all and then not like it or it doesn't work.
I had the Rent class as my dancers this meant that I had 11 dancers plus the four friends and off cast Dorothy so overall 16 people. Because 16 people are hard to get free all at the same time I spoke with Kat and planned to have an hour each week in the rent classes time to teach them and then teach the friends and OD in lesson. Liam and I had a small chat and decided spacing within the number so that it was tidy and worked with the choreography.
I was able to teach the rent class the whole number within the first hour which was great so the next week I let them do another number they are in but we did BND at the end of the lesson. I had decided that the two singing solos would go to Luke and Paige however towards closer the show Paige had to drop out of it so we put Izzy in.
In one section there is a grape vine between two lines however after a few rehearsals I decided that only one line would do it as it became too much for the friends to do also they had there solo singing sections coming up so I didn't want them too tired that they couldn't sing for that section also being a friend myself on one night I know that it was a hard transition so I made the decision to change it.
also nearer the performance I asked Kim to extend the opening of the song so that they had more time to take off their overalls otherwise some people were panicking that couldn't change quick enough, so I doubled the intro.
Overall when we finally did the number with all set, costume, lighting and an audience, the number went really well, the costumes worked really well as well as the lighting and everyone remembered the number however some people had pulled out the week of the show so the spacing was a bit off near the end so that could have been sorted but I think it still went well. I think the groups energy was amazing considering that it is quite a demanding number.
Wiz Evaluation
I think that overall as Dorothy the show went really well, the 4:30 show had a few problems such as set not working and lines issues but they were all sorted for the evening show ot still could have been better because nothing is ever perfect.
I think in the final performance that I really improved my characterisation from when we had started and that I could really connect as Dorothy, I still think I could have improved on this but I was really proud of myself.
Throughout the process of this show I think that we have all found characterisation the hardest as the characters were so very unlike our usual sleves however I feel that we all really pulled it off , I found ti really interesting the second night when I was off cast to see the prospective of the story from other characters points of view it made it fun and I gotto be in more chorus numbers.
I found that with a proper audience in we all upped our energy and performance levels making the show more dynamic for our audience and more enjoyable for ourselves. I always take how the show has gone from the audiences reaction and in the end a live performance is all about whether or not the audience enjoy it and react to the performances. As when we rehearsed the focus was on getting it right technically however with an audience we performed with more of an emotional level.
I really liked how the set and lighting added to the atmosphere within the performances whether it be them being red and representing danger or green for the emerald city it made the show more lively and appealing to the shows target audience as well as setting the mood for each scene for our characters.
Overall I think that my characterisation was my strongest point which to me is a shock as originally was my weak link, but I think my energy and coordination was good as well but I still think I could have improved in different areas.

Wiz 3/5 and 5/5
In these lessons we did run throughs including as much of the production roles as possible.
Having things like lights and set made it a lot easier to get into the zone and into character I think that everyone felt a little like this. It also made everyone use more energy within the numbers especially the more over the top numbers like munchkins and Oz. I think that the likes gave good connotations as well as being very effective making the show more visual for the audience which I think what the show is about. The run throughs went quite well their were a few hiccups as it was still new using all the set and costumes so we were still getting used to doing it in the new enviornments but they really helped us get into it.
With the production roles Jordy and I had discussed with Rachel and came up with that the multimedia should be quite creepy and tom burton themed so we made some designs and found some good images I emailed them to myself and I edited them some before putting them onto a powerpoint, I think the images, gifs and videos will add a really dynamic affect to the show and make it more modern. After we did this adam gave us the idea to have a bored with a 3d screen set so that it looked embossed me and Jordy loved this idea and told adam the kind of thing we were going for and he desgined a background which was amazing.
overall in this lesson my strenghtsh were focus and coordination but I still think that my characterisation could still be improved but this will come through running it with all elements.

Dance 3/5
In this lesson we rehearsed Ease on down the road and brand new day.
I feel like I have finally got Ease on down the road sorted for me, as I have been practicing it a lot at home, I think though that I could still add more characterisation but I feel like this will come through costume and set. I think when we get the final set in we will end up changing the spacing once again as we haven't tried it yet on the proper yellow brick road staging that we have. I think that I have really developed my character in this number since first learning it, as well as showing the relationships with the friends within this number.
With Brand New Day I had already taught the rent class the dance so in thislesson I just had to teach the friends their parts within the number this wasn't too hard as their movement is a lot simpler than the dancers movements. I think they picked it up really well and that it will look good when it is all put together.
To improve I need to practice the dance in costume so that I know I can do it all in costume, I will do this when I have spare time in the next week before next lesson/rehearsal. For brand new day I need to run it all together and get everyone in to try the singing as well.
